Consider the Location, Size and Design of your Deck. Is the deck goin on a slope? Is the ground soft or solid? Are you you planning to have a partially or fully covered area? But also consider the impact it may have on the look of the house. Too big, it may dwarf your house. Too small, and it defies its purpose.
Personalize the Space with Deck Lighting, Furniture & Storage – Important to have a plan or vision what furniture you will put on your deck. Don’t forget the storage for winter time, or simply what to do on a rainy or windy day. And when those dark autumn time arrives, do you have the right lighting in place? Don’t forget the outdoor sockets for your appliances.
Don’ts
Don’t Choose the Cheapest Decking & Materials – A deck cost a lot of money, and it is tempting to take the cheapest material, but good material will last much longer. Composite material last the longest and stays in good condition much longer then wood, and requires much less maintenance.
Don’t Overestimate your DIY Skills – Its not rocket science, but it is a skill to construct a safe and well-functioning deck. If you are not sure, consult a contractor or ask help from people who have experience building decks. And don’t forget to watch the videos below!
